This study documents patterns of torture in Iraq, and how jailors use torture as entertainment and as a political, sectarian, and social response.

In this study prepared by the Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights, with the support of the Gulf Center for Human Rights, we conducted interviews with victims and jailers and pointed out the legal vacuum, the absence of accountability, and the widespread phenomenon of impunity.

This study was launched on the sidelines of the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, on Sep. 2022 which was hosted by Amnesty International and the Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights (IOHR).
